Maska, of Local Edition Creative, Masked Revival, 2020, mixed media on wood.
The exterior wall overlooking the patio of Mel’s Diner (1394 North Main Street) displays a detailed, multi-media mural by an artist called Maska. This piece, titled Masked Revival, is a nostalgic homage to Walnut Creek’s 1950s cruising culture and references historic local landmarks such as St. Paul's Chapel, El Rey Theater, Shadelands Ranch, Lesher Center for the Arts, and Century Theaters.
Maska was born in Kazakhstan in 1985 and moved to the Bay Area as a child.
This project was made possible by Walnut Creek’s Public Art Program and the City of Walnut Creek’s Rebound Temporary Art Program.
